We have a FIVE Year Old!?!?!?!

IMG_6238
Kenny and I cannot believe that our Delaney is 5 years old now and ready for Kindergarten!  She finished up her VPK at The Children’s Workshop with gleaming reviews from her teachers, Mrs. Adair and Mrs. Steele.  They say she is very smart, social, goofy, and well-rounded.  She can play “T-Rex” with the boys and Princesses with the girls.  Kenny and I think that is a great compliment!  She went to her Kindergarten orientation and seemed to fit right in.  She doesn’t appear nervous at all, but it does help that she’ll have at least 17 of her TCW friends at Pine Trail with her!
Academically, she amazes us!  She’s reading already, knows all of her letters/numbers, writes her first and last name perfectly with proper casing, and knows the phonics sounds of all her letters.  She can cut very well, trace, and really loves arts and crafts.  She just recently learned to tie a bow on her dresses and sneakers...(I actually taught her while we were in a rest stop on our drive to NC to visit Rosie and Tim).  She comes up with the funniest expressions and quotes…and Kenny and I can’t really spell anymore around her because she figures it out.  So no more “Should we go in the P-O-O-L?”
Physically, she weighs 45 lb. (80th percentile) and is 43 1/2 inches tall (70th percentile).  Her vision is a perfect 20/20!  She just went to the dentist for the first time.  Her bottom right tooth is loose, and she is getting a 6 year old molar: it's broken through on the R side.  Dr. McDonnell says she is on the early end of the tooth spectrum!  Her teeth are all perfect, and she has good spacing, so most likely no braces in her future!  YEAH!  She must have gotten Mommy's teeth! She played soccer this year and was a STAR, scoring 4 goals in the first game alone!  She really got it and is a great athlete.  She is swimming like a fish: floating, backstroke, and now is diving to the bottom of the deep end to retrieve a dive stick.  She loves to dance around the house, sing (especially to the Tangled soundtrack), and play with her sister.  They use their imagination when they play and come up with the funniest scenarios.  They get married a lot around here!  HAHA!  Delaney took one of my prenatal yoga classes with me and was so good at it, she is really coordinated and studied so hard to imitate the teacher, which she did perfectly.
She loves doing hair and makeup, and can already braid and put a ponytail in her own hair!  She and I watch YouTube videos of how to do makeup and she tries her hardest to imitate them.  She still loves wearing her high heels and dresses all the time.  She really loves the Disney Princesses, especially Rapunzel.  We were at Disney two times this year, once in October, and once for the Christmas Party in December.  She rode her first rollercoaster, Splash Mountain, with Kenny and Nana and loved it!  Her best friends are Wyatt, Ava, and Sarah.  She still is very adventurous with food and will try anything!  We’ve let her start eating raw sushi and she just loves it!  Some of her favorite foods are yogurt, bagels, turkey rollups, sushi, pizza, and mac and cheese.  She loves anything sweet, like ice cream, candy, and cake.  We always get compliments on what a great and healthy eater she is.  When we were in MA, she even ordered chowder for her meal instead of chicken nuggets!  She is such an adult sometimes!
Personality-wise, she tends to be reserved and likes to watch what is going on before joining in, but once she is comfortable, watch out!!  I took her to Renee’s mom’s classroom already so she will get an idea of what it is like to be in a big school and a regular classroom.  We try and prepare her as much as possible for situations, even getting places early so she can be able to observe.  She is definitely goofy and is developing a great personality.  She is starting to play jokes and loves planning a surprise.  There is a song on the girls’ Disney CD called “Hole in the Bucket” that Papa does not like…it’s become a standing joke that he groans every time it comes on in the car.  Delaney and Lucy have now started to sing it whenever he comes in a room just to harass him!  They even change the lyrics to make it even funnier!
Delaney has impressed Kenny and I with how she has completely welcomed Finn into our family with such open arms.  They have such a mutual adoration of each other!  He just looks at her and laughs, and she does her hardest to make him laugh all of the time, with dances, goofy faces, and songs.  She reads to him, feeds him, burps him, brings him his binkies, whatever I need her to do, she will do to take care of her brother.  She always wants me to take pictures of the two of them together!  They are so cute…he has loved her since he was in my belly- he would always kick when he heard her voice.
For the second year in a row, Delaney had multiple birthday celebrations!  For her “friend” party, we invited her whole class (plus other friends) to our house!  We rented a pink and purple waterslide/bounce house castle. We had a castle cake that I made, with layers of pink and purple cake inside.  The kids all had a GREAT time, and we received a lot of compliments on what a fun party it was…the best of the year! Aunt Chris hosted a BBQ for Delaney’s when we were in MA on the day before her birthday so we were able to hang out with Annie and Jenna.  Delaney and Papa went to the store and picked out an Oreo ice cream cake for that party! Then on her actual birthday, we ate dinner outside at Nana and Papa’s and had a little pink strawberry cake that she had picked out when we went to the Price Chopper.  They have kid-size carts there, so Delaney was so excited she could put her cake in her cart and wheel it around!  Then, once Kenny was in town, we had a big family party with all of the cousins, aunts, uncles, and grandparents!  We had a great time…Aunt Linda out together a Rapunzel and Papa took us all out on the boat for tubing fun.  We had a giant Hello Kitty cookie cake for this party…the birthday girl loves her desserts!
